5/3,4 SLow Weekend
After the yellowfin showing on Friday we were optimistic about the weekend but turned out to be very slow. 1 yellowfin, 3 gaffers for Ron Stevens crew on Saturday and only 1 yellowfin for Mike Bowe on Sunday. Sorry guys will do better next time.
Bill Brennan and crew from New Jersey fished with us on Friday the 2nd. Slow in the morning and then the fleet found some yellowfins, we ended up with 11 and a handful of gaffer dolphin. Thanks
4/29/14 Choppy day
Aaron Clark and crew from Virginia fished with us Tuesday. Weather calling for increasing SE wind and sea but the gang was up for it. We hooked a nice bluefin early on and fought him for a while before pulling the hook. Caught a 80lb Mako and the gang decided to call it an early day. Sounds like the gaffer dolphin fishing was good in Hatteras so expect after this 2 day blow we should see a sign of them when back out Friday. Thanks
4/28/14, Keeper bluefin
Mike Griffin and gang fished with us on a nice day Monday. Yellowfins were scarce but the bluefins were around and we caught 3, releasing 2 and keeping a 70" fish. Also caught 3 gaffer dolphin. Thanks
4/27/14 Good sign of yellowfins
We got struck by lightening Friday night which fried several electrical components on our motors and caused us to miss Saturday. CAT had the parts in stock and we got fixed up and made it back out Sunday with Mark Allison and crew. We hooked a 350 plus pound bluefin on a 50W in the morning which we released after 2 hours. We then ran south to where some guys were getting some yellowfin bites. We had some tough luck losing fish and only ended up with 3 but some boats caught as many as 12 or 14. Thanks
4/5/14 Slow today
Slow for Glen collins today. A couple bites provided a keeper bluefin. Thanks
4/3/14 We Found Them!!
We had Travis Brown and his crew for a bachelor party for Travis. Nice weather and about 5 charter boats and 6 or 7 private boats went out hunting. We covered a lot of ground and we coming up with nothing. I had fished south all morning after starting to the NE. Around 12:30 or so out in the deep due east of Oregon Inlet I found a huge area of porpoises on bait with birds on the porpoise. As we got closer Chris saw a bluefin jump and shortly after we hooked and boated a small bluefin around 80lbs. Dennis on the A- Salt Weapon steamed to me and right away hooked a pair. We missed one as soon as we set back out then hooked a nice fish which kept us tied down for close to 2 hours. The rest of the boats ran to us as well and everyone had action. Later on the Bluefins pushed the porpoise out and everywhere you looked they were exploding on bait, rolling and jumping. We finally caught our bluefin around 3:00 and it was a 95" fish. We decided to take him for our trophy as it is late in season and the fish are becoming scarce. Frank did a great job in the chair and the fish ended up weighing 475 pounds.
4/1/14, Four at The End!
We had Kevin and Kim all the way from Michigan on Tuesday. Some sea on the bar but nice conditions once out the inlet. Very little going on only 1 bluefin caught out of the fleet. Around lunch we steamed to south looking for another body of water to try. Ended up running further than we expected but did end up on a change that went from 52deg to 70deg kind of quick. Lots of porpoises and about the 5th pack we circled was holding. We hooked 4 at once and Kevin and Kim caught all 4. Only 60-80 pounders but glad for the action and the one under fish to bring home. Thanks
3/22 3/23-14 Slow for the Jersey Boys
Saturday and Sunday we had Frank, Bob, Donnie, Bruce and Henry from New Jersey. Lots of marks on the bottom machine Saturday(see pic) but very few bites. I believed only 5 fish caught out of 18 or so boats. Sunday the weather was gonna turn to crap around mid day with a cold front and 30knot winds coming. The boys were up for giving it a go before the blow and it paid off. Bob caught a nice 82 inch fish we released in about 40 minutes in the am. We left mid day as the wind picked up. Thanks guys and see you next time.
3/21/14 Three More for our Owners
We had our boat owners Dell and Craig on Friday. A nice day, a lot of boats out and good action in am. We set out and missed a nice fish on the long rigger. Circled back and hooked a 60 inch keeper that they caught in short order. A little while later we caught another under sized fish we let go. Fishing slowed and we saw a lot of fish on top surfing down see and had lots of marks but no cooperation. Later in the day we did catch a 74 inch fished we released.
