Sailfishing in Isla Mujeres, Mexico Mid January through February
The BI-OP-SEA will be docked at Puerto Isla Mujeres which allows a short run to the excellent fishing grounds located north of the island. Fishing here is outstanding with 10-50+ shots a day at sails the norm during this time of year. We use 20lb stand up tackle and encourage angler participation. The fishing here provides an excellent opportunity to learn how to hook billfish as well as improve overall angling skill.
The Island itself is located just a few miles (via high speed ferry) off of Cancun. Isla Mujeres has beautiful beaches, great restaurants, a fun nightlife, friendly people, and a laid back atmosphere. The downtown area on the north end of the island has shops, hotels, bars, and restaurants all within a few block radius. Other activities on the island include snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, exploring the island, and checking out some Mayan ruins.
Lodging on the island ranges from $75-300/night depending on what your needs are, but $100-150/night will get a nice room for 2 people. The majority of the hotels are located in the downtown area which is a short cab or golf cart ride (many people rent golf carts while here) to the marina. Check out www.islamujeres.net to find a list of hotels and other info about the island. There are some upscale suites and villas within the marina called Hotel Villa Vera. Further info can be found on the website listed above.
*Call or e-mail for rates and available dates for this great billfishing destination.
